Physician Assistants Emily Gottstein, Chelsea Percy and myself just returned from the Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference in Las Vegas. At his seminar we had the opportunity to see and learn about all the latest developments in the field of dermatology. The scientific advances never stop. Allergan has just released a new filler for wrinkles around the mouth (Juvederm Volbella) which we will be introducing to our practice.

Another exciting new finding is just how well Skin Medica TNS Essential Serum and Skin Medica Total Defense and Repair work on the neck. All of us have been using these products on the face but even we were amazed at how much improvement can be seen on the neck in just 12 weeks. These before and after photos are amazing!

Dr. Accetta and his daughter Julia Accetta, a student at The George Washington University, have published an article on digital photography.  The article can be found in the March 2014 issue of The Dermatologist, a journal devoted to practical and clinical insights into today’s dermatology issues.

The article explains in detail how we have incorporated digital photography into our practice.  It highlights everything from choosing a camera, details on camera settings as well as the storage and retrieval of clinical images.

This article was prompted by a previous publication by Dr. Accetta and Julia which demonstrated that not all dermatologists utilized digital photography because they perceived it to be too complex, costly and time consuming.  This article explains in a step by step fashion how dermatologists can start using digital imaging today with equipment they already own.

The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology has recognized our practice with a feature article on their website.

As you know we use digital photography extensively in our practice to track lesions, biopsy sites and surgeries.  A study I conducted last year showed that 18% of board certified dermatologists do not perform any photography in their offices.

In this article I explain to other dermatologists that digital photography need not be complex and offer them step by step guidance.
